Built in the 1850s as a federal custom house, West Virginia Independence Hall was once the capital building for Virginia's Union Government. The stunning Victorian building now houses a Civil War museum with an interpretive film, a permanent exhibit outlining the War's role in defining West Virginia's boundaries, and even tours from costumed guides. The Hall lies in the heart of town, across the river from Wheeling Downs.
