The town of Wheeling boasts the largest sampling of Victorian architecture, per capita, in the country. The Victorian Wheeling Landmarks Foundation strives to preserve these historic homes, and offers costumed, guided tours of many of them, touching on such treasures as the Renaissance Revival Hess House, and the Romanesque Revival John List House—there's even a tea room on the tour, where guests can enjoy High Tea and various meals in an elegant, 19th-century dining area. Tours begin at the Hess House, along the downtown waterfront, a few blocks west of Peninsular Cemetery.
